went to see this Friday afternoon and well, thank God I always carry some chewable Pepto-Bismol in my purse with me! talk about nauseating. all in all it's a good plot, good monsters, good action, but that damn camera movement was killing the whole film.
suffice it to say I was actually a little bit pleased when the character that held the camera for most of the film was finally killed towards the end, but my nausea didn't pass until an hour later when I got home and took a short nap.
it felt like I was watching the "rough draft" of a good alien invasion flick, right before the professionals take the idea and make an even better version of it.
I saw on the news that Cloverfield did hit the #1 spot in sales but I'm not sure it will hold it, unless the audiences can hold down their popcorn for the 2nd week after seeing it.
back to the drawing board kiddies, and remember just because running around the city with an 8mm seemed like a good idea back in film school, doesn't mean it will always work in the film industry. you have to be able to keep your audience in the seats and looking at the screen to make money. (this is probably the first time in 33 yrs. I have purposely looked away from the screen to keep from throwing up because of the camera movement.)
I want my $7.00 back!
